The core value of GMU management department is to teach students to be a leader, consider strategically and invent successful organizational environments. And the most essential skills that management concentrates is gather people together to accomplish goals and build the orientation for organizations in a changeable world. The history of this department is not found on the official website. This major offers the specialized skills, the global course which is an abroad internship and the master degree in management. There are 12 required courses of management including business strategy and firm leadership, management of IT, statistical analysis for management, and so on. It’s obvious that we can acquire not only academic skills but also practical skills after finishing the several courses of management. Thus, the knowledge we’ve learned is useful for our internship, and we can improve our abilities during the internship. Absolutely, getting the master degree of management leads us to become an excellent manager. There is no information about organizational structure of management. There are 20 professors and 15 lecturers in the management department. Richard Klimoski is the chairperson and Anne Magro is the secretary in the management department. Moreover, the graduate management last 10 months for full-time students. It shows that the management department at GMU is a good choice for people who want to study management because of the short study time.
Catherine Durnell Cramton is the professor I am most interested in. She posted her CV on the website, so we can know her easily. She is working as a professor of management at George Mason University. She finished her bachelor of arts in government at the Harvard University in 1979, and she completed her Ph.d in organizational behavior at the Yale University in 1994. She concentrates on research about collaboration and cross-cultural adaption in global teams, culture-specific coordination practices, information-sharing and relationship development in geographically-distributed teams, language issues in global teams and teamwork in software development and engineering contexts. It implies that the professor had strong interest in management. Therefore, she devoted herself to management for several years. It suggests that it’s never too late to improve our professional abilities. In addition, the professor has already published about 15 papers focusing on cross-culture and global management, organizational behavior and leadership in some journals and annals, including Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Academy of Information & Management Science Journal, and so on. And she also has about 4 papers published in proceedings. Besides, she had professional service for several communities, like Academy of Management Communications Committee. It illustrates that Carmton is an excellent scholar who is skilled in management field because of the plenty of papers she has published. This requires her to keep studying and researching.
